Civil Service Bureau Awarded for Providing the Best Access to Public Data
The Civil Service Bureau was awarded for providing the best access to public data in 2012-2013. Initiated by the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) and Open Society Georgia, the award was given within the project “Public information databases – www.opendata.ge”. This is the second time the Civil Service Bureau has received the award. The main trends and challenges concerning the accessibility of public information in Georgia were discussed at the event. The most accountable public agencies were nominated and awarded with certificates, and additionally, the least transparent public agencies were noted.
The Civil Service Bureau has been providing electronic public services since 2010. One such initiative is the on-line system for the declaration of assets – www.declaration.gov.ge. The website enables any interested individual to easily locate and download the mandatory asset declarations submitted by senior public officials. Another project implemented by the Civil Service Bureau is the employment portal for the civil service – www.hr.gov.ge. This initiative promotes more transparency and openness in the government's employment process.
In order to ensure civil services remain public, the Civil Service Bureau constantly carries out innovative projects and actively co-operates with various international and non-governmental organisations. The Civil Service Bureau is pleased with the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information’s recognition for its achievements and the two parties plan to continue their active collaboration in the future.
